Meeting 1036 "Lest We Forget"

With Anzac Day approaching, the theme was "Lest We Forget."

Gail opened the meeting in the absence of President Christiane and handed control to Toastmaster of the evening, Chris.  Chris had prepared some interesting information about the Anzacs, which he shared throughout the meeting.

Stephen proposed a toast to "Anzacs - Lest we Forget." (We were delighted to have Stephen back with us again after his recent injuries.)

Stephen

Blake gave us a word that was first coined in circa 1200 - "Silence." It was fitting because a minute's silence is always observed on Anzac Day.

Round Robin Master Carmy asked, "What is your first memory of Anzac Day?"

Darryl presented his speech "A Little Bit Sharper." and gave us some tools for memorising speeches, such as repetition, journey method, and story list.
He was evaluated by Trevor.

John T gave an entertaining tongue in cheek "election speech" titled  "Vote 1 Joe Blow for a Fair Go."
He was evaluated by Paul.

Eileen used emotive body language in her speech "My Mother's Love." She was evaluated by Leanne.

All the speeches were projects from the new Pathways programme

Leesa was Time Keeper.

Raffle Master Gail enticed us with a bag of Anzac memorabilia which also included chocolate. It was later won by Eileen.

A delicious supper was provided by Stephen. It was a good time to catch up with one another...

After the break, Table Topic Master Blake had some hypothetical questions for Stephen, Darryl, Carmy, Paul, Leesa, Marlene, Leanne and Jonathon.

 TT Master Blake
Stephen - "Dinner with Trump"

Darryl - "Zombie Apocalypse"
Carmy - "Superhero Powers"

Paul - "Choose band"
Leanne - "Music or Lanuages"

Leesa - "Plane crash"
Jonathon - "Ninja Tuirtles"

The Table Topic speakers were evaluated by Trevor and Casey.

Marlene conducted a mini educational session on how to be Table Topics Master. Her main points were,
1. Keep the topics brief and easy to understand.
2. Prepare extra copies for the time keeper, and evaluators.
3. Call on members who don't have a major role on the programme.
4. Give the topic before nominating the speaker.

Grammarian Jonathon reported that there were no "ums & ahs" in the Round Robin, but there were 10 in the evaluations and 3 in the rest of the meeting. He commended various members on their use of  word puns, rhyming words, triads, short sharp sentences and vivid word pictures.

Marlene conducted a Listening Quiz, and Monica presented a General Evaluation of the entire meeting.

Monica
The evenings awards went to Jonathon (Best Evaluation,) Jonathon & Leanne - tie (Best Table Topic)  and Eileen (Best Speech and Most Improved.)

  3. The photo of Chris and me - I think I was handing the gavel over to Chris and I was checking my notes to see who the Toastmaster was.
