Meetiong 944 "Mind Your Language"

The vagaries of the English language provided entertainment at the meeting. Toastmaster of the evening Marlene gave some examples of Spoonerisms and Malaprops.

We had three guests, Paul, James and Tami.


Word Master Jean S chose the word "desist," meaning "to stop doing something, cease or abstain."

Dave was Round Robin Master and asked us for a favourite word or phrase.

A few of them were "chocolate," "celebrate," " philosophy," " immune," " Mississippi," " Daddy, " "risk it for the biscuit" "wisdom doesn't grow on whiskers" "Carpe Deum." etc.







Pam had Table Topics for Jean, Nick and Jim. She described scenarios and asked "What would you say..."

Meeting 943 "Food,Glorious Food"



Congratulations to Harry, on completing his 10th manual speech and achieving Competent Communicator status!
Harry's account of  his harrowing journey home through flood waters and the lesson he learned from it, had everyone enthralled and earned him a standing ovation.

Another inspiring speech was delivered by Sharyn. Using the projector, and great body language, she showed us how we can be more creative.

Toastmaster John T had prepared a variety of helpful information, facts and jokes about food and kept us entertained between meeting segments

.Rose had decorated the tables with what looked like delicious treats, but warned us not to eat them. Some were actually dog's rubber toys. 






Rose was also Table Topics Master, filling in for Amanda. She had food related topics for Terry, Liz, Leesa and Marlene.

Meeting 942 "Moving out of one's comfort zone"

Many members took a step out of their comfort zone and performed a role for the first time.
 Rose was Toastmaster for the first time and was well prepared.

As it was just after Anzac Day, Steve proposed a toast to "The Anzac Spirit."

Wordmaster Liz introduced the word "Strive" and kept tally of those who strove to use the word.

Jean C was Round Robin Master for the first time and her topic was "Getting out of your comfort zone." Everyone had an uncomfortable experience to relate.

Tim and John T co-chaired a lively Fun Business Session. The motion was that "at meetings of Sandgate Toastmasters Club, male members be required to wear a tie and buttoned up shirt and that female members wear a dress of appropriate length as determined by the Sergeant of Arms."

The motion was defeated.
