Meeting 1044 Evaluation & Humorous Contests


Contest nights are always exciting and bring out the best in the contestants. 

Annette acted as a fill in for president Gail who was unable to be present. She welcomed guests Sue, Maria, Adrian and Dan as well as the test speaker Lisa and contest judges Alan, Jenny Teena, Terry, Daniel, (Area Director) and Kirsty.

Eileen was Toastmaster. She warmed up the audience with some hilarious "Dad" jokes. (It's almost Father's Day.) 

Blake took on the role of Contest Chairman for the Evaluation Contest.

The test speech was delivered by our guest Lisa.

The contestants Darryl, Leanne & Annette, each gave an evaluation of Lisa's speech.

First place went to Darryl, with Leanne second and Annette third.

All four speeches were very funny and well performed. The Winner was Casey, with Darryl second and Trish third.

Stephen's raffle - a beautiful wooden cheese board that he had made and a waxed wrap was won by Eileen.

The Contest winners will compete against other Toastmasters Clubs at the Area Conference in November.

Meeting 1043 Sandgate is 45


Happy birthday to us!

We celebrated our club's 45th birthday last meeting with a special supper and birthday cake




Sergeant at Arms Darryl called the meeting to order and handed control to president Gail, who welcomed our guests Area Governor Daniel, first time visitor Dan, and Gokul, Maria and Adrian

Gail presented Blake and Chris with their Competent Communicator  badge, and congratulated them on completing all 10 projects in the CC Manual.

Toastmaster of the evening was Monica, who was able to relate some of the achievementsof several long term members.

Word Master John T chose the word for the evening "Celebrate," with its other forms, "celebration" and "celebratory."

    Round Robin Master Andrea  invited us to tell of a time in our lives when we have celebrated.

There were three prepared speeches. Jonathon posed the question "How are we Going?" He used the projector to illustrate his speech about the N.P.S. - Net Promoter Score. It was good to see that most of our members are promoters of Toastmasters and there were no detractors.

Trish presented a very informative speech on how to use Power Point effectively, and gave some entertaining examples of  correct and incorrect use. This was the final project to be completed in Trish's Competent Communicator manual. Another CC for Trish!

In Gail's speech "When Nuts aren't Nuts" we learned all about peanuts.

Annette, who has been in the Sandgate Toastmasters for 42 years presented a short and entertaining history of the club.

Eileen was raffle master. Because it is Exhibition week, she made up a sample bag. And because the club is 45 years old, she included items that she thought a 45 year old would like. (All ages queued to buy tickets.)  The lucky winner was Gokul, (who won't be 45 for a  quite a while.)

Supper time! We had an extended break so we could enjoy the sumptuous dips, fruit and cake. (Pictured here with our Area Director Daniel and the Executive Officers of the club.)

A short business session was held after the break, with Stephen as chairman. The main item for discussion was the purchase of new trophies.

There were some hilarious moments during the evening.

The evenings awards went to Leanne (Best Evaluator,) Gail (Best Speech,) and Jakob (Best Table Topic and Most Improved.)

Next meeting on the 27th August will be a contest night. More entries for the Evaluation Contest and the Humorous Speech Contest are needed.

Einbinpin Festival 2019

Every year, have an information stall at the local Einbunpin Festival. This year it was organised by Eileen.

Meeting 1042 "School Days"


It was a light-hearted meeting, full of fun. Sergeant at Arms Darryl called the meeting to order and recited the Toastmasters Mission Statement from memory. He then set the the tone of the meeting with a short joke.

President Gail welcomed guests Maria, Gokul, Torben and Adrian and inducted new members Jakob and Andrea.


Marlene was Toastmaster for the evening and since the theme was "School Days," she dressed for the part in a mortar board hat and gown.

Monica presented a toast to "Old school days."

Darryl presented the word for the evening "Assiduous," meaning showing great care and attention.

Jakob was Round Robin Master and he asked each member to share their best or worst memory from their school days. This resulted in some funny stories.

There were three prepared speeches. Peter's speech "The Cell" was accompanied by soundless moving pictures on the screen to tell the amazing story of cells.

His speech was evaluated by Christiane.

John's speech "Routes to Peace" was a passionate call to action. It completed his Pathways Level 1.

Stephen spoke on "Assertiveness," and used some good body language to demonstrate how to deal with people.

Paul's raffle was chocolate and wine. It was won by Eileen.

Time keeper Casey reported that we were running over time, so the supper break was shortened to 10 minutes.

Trish had prepared Table Topics related to the School theme and selected Gokul, Andrea, Paul, Trevor, Monica and Annette to give a brief impromptu speech..

Gail presented an Educational Session about club contests and encouraged members to take part in the  contests which will be held in August and September.

Grammarian Trish commented on descriptive words and phrases used during the evening. She commented on the over use of  the word "really." And she suggested we avoid using the negative word "but" when giving an evaluation.

Jonathon had mostly commendations in his General Evaluation of the entire meeting.

The evening's awards went to Jakob and Andrea (Most Improved,) John (Best speech,) and Annette (Best Table Topic and Best Evaluation).

As there are 5 Tuesday in July, it will be 3 weeks until next meeting on the 13th August. We will be celebrating our club's 45th birthday that night with a special supper.

Contests will be held on the 27th August.

Meanwhile, some of us will be at our information stall at the Einbunpin Festival this Sunday, 28th July. See you there!
