Changeover Dinner - Out of the Box

"Out of the Box" was the theme, and judging from reports, it was an out of the box evening!

Congratulations to our special award winners, Toastmaster of the Year Annette, Special Achiever John T and Most Improved Toastmaster Nick. I hope to have a photo of them soon.

There was another award  - for 100 percent attendance. You can see the irony, can't you - I wasn't able to attend and receive my award, or take photos, because I had a fluey cold.

Thanks to Liz We, who took these photos.

The theme "Sports" was carried on throughout the meeting. Toastmaster John T had prepared a lively quiz which engendered an atmosphere of fun. Even our guests Amanda, Bryce and Cody joined in.

Word Master Maureen chose the word "Paladin" meaning "heroic champion." A few people managed to use the word during the evening.

Round Robin
Round Robin Master D'sley asked "How do you enjoy the Australian Outdoors?" Some of the answers included walking, bike riding, gardening, swimming, camping, fossil hunting, playing rugby, while a few said they preferred indoors because of the mosquitoes and sunburn.

The Table Topics were shared by Jim and Darryl and were related to our theme.
They were answered by D'sley, Maureen and Dave.

Remembering Joyce

Members who were in our club before 2008 will have fond memories of Joyce Valentine. Joyce was a very active member and would always go out of her way to be helpful. She always attended Toastmasters Conferences, assisted with the Einbunpin Festival, Speechcraft, and excelled in her role of Vice President Public Relations. Some of our Executive meetings were held in Joyce's home.

Sadly, Joyce passed away on the 17th May.

Here are a few photos of Joyce.

Volunteer Afternoon

Kerry
Liz,  Pam & Marlene attended a special Thankyou afternoon tea for volunteers, hosted by our local MP & Past Member of Sandgate Toastmasters, Kerry Millard.

Volunteers from local groups were invited to set up a display to promote their organisation.

The afternoon tea was scrumptious! Kerry said it had come from the Town Hall Bakery in Sandgate.
