Toastmaster Jim  set a light hearted tone for the meeting which continued throughout the evening.

Jim - Toastmaster

Paul's word of the day was "Flourish."

Paul

Round Robin Master Robyn asked, "What make you feel young again?" There were some amusing replies and several managed to use the word of the day.

Zoe presented her second speech, titled "Have you ever driven a car when drunk?" and used a personal story to show how driving when fatigued can be as bad as driving when drunk.

Zoe
Nick's speech "I can see clearly now" was the 6th project in the CC manual. A personal story about overcoming a rare eye disease.

Nick

Evaluators Annette T and Christiane were very encouraging with some points to think about for next time.

Peter's presented his raffle with humour,as he told of his effort to find a spring for a spring raffle - or "even a step to put a spring into." before deciding on flowers and chocolate.

Meeting 995 - Happiness

Happiness was predicted - and it was fulfilled.

The meeting was opened by Acting Sergeant-at-Arms John Topping, this time in the upstairs meeting room at the Full Moon Hotel.

Guests Patrick, Karen, Jun, Sol, Marie and return Guest Lien were welcomed, some had enquired at the recent Einbunpin Festival Toastmasters stall.

Jonathon was stand-in Toastmaster, and he imbibed the Happiness in us all with his GNH (Gross National Happiness) factor. The Greek word for happiness is "Eudomonia" but it means much more than just that. It also embraces fulfilling human nature.

Jonathon

Peter provided an interesting word TRUMP. It had many uses, some not exactly correct, but used throughout the night by many.

Peter

Gail added to the happiness in her Round Robin session by asking each person to describe the best unexpected happy event they can remember.

Paul provided the Toast to Happiness

Trish introduced Nikki who spoke on "How are you doing".

Annette M introduced Christiane who speech was entitled "What's Good for the Goose, is Good for the Gander".

Marlene introduced Tim Gibbs, whose untitled speech from the Special Occasion Speeches manual - Praise, kept us guessing about the mystery person, Mike Hailwood. A famous motorcycle racer and car racer during the 1960s to 1980s he was known personally by Tim.

Timer Robyn was kept on her toes with timing, doing an excellent job of reporting.

Supper was a good time for fellowship and buying raffle tickets.

Deb offered happiness with the raffle and delivered to winner Jonathon.

A business session conducted by Chairman Steve ran with extended time, with much to discuss about the upcoming 1000th meeting.

Steve

Table Topics presented by Nick were very interesting in keeping with the theme of Happiness.

Nick

John debated whether 'Money can buy happiness', Darryl was asked "What would make your life happier", Liz decided her glass was always half full and Peter walked a fine line deciding if Donald Trump was happy. Plenty of humour kept the happiness level high.

Annete
Carmy

Carmy and Annette T very ably evaluated the topics.

Grammarian John reinforced some of our good vocabulary but also pointed out ways to avoid the tendency to speak too quickly by using pause.

Mr General Evalulator Darryl provided a short version (owing to time restraints) of the whole meeting, which brought us all more happiness.

Award winners: A tie for Best Speech - Christiane and Nikki
A tie for Table Topics - Darryl and John
                           Best Evaluation - Annette T
                           Most Improved - Nikki

Winner Nikki enjoying happiness!
