Meeting 1174 Debate

 Sometimes, when there are five Tuesdays in a month, we hold an extra meeting on the 5th Tuesday' This time we held a debate on the pros & cons of social media. 

First, President Helen presented Robert with his membership badge.

Trevor as Toastmaster had plenty to say as he introduced the meeting theme of "Who Controls You?" 
Eoin proposed a toast to "Healthy Debating."

Word Master Robert gave us the word "Preparation." 
Christiane as Round Robin Master began a "Fortunatly, Unfortunately" story which began with looking for a job to finance an overseas trip and evolved into a hilarious story about chicken farming.

Trish introduced the debate.
Narelle, Eoin and Robert were on the affirmative team. Chris, Marlene & Arun on the Negative team.

Although the audience voted for the Affirmative team, the Adjudicators declared the Negative team the winner. Helen presented them with a prize.

John Delivered his speech that he will use to compete in the International Speech Contest at the District Conference.
It was evaluated by Amy, with some further comments from other members.

Helen presented a Mockup Motion : That we adopt a mascot "Sir Toast a Lot" that would sit on the lectern and be addressed at each meeting. Maddy spoke against the motion. The Motion was defeated.

The meeting was running late, so we skipped to the General Evaluation by Gail, who had also been time keeper.

Next meeting 13th May. Election of club Officers.
