Meeting 1169 "Books"

President Helen presented Maddie, Brett and Tracy with their membership badges, then inducted our new members, Scarlett and Eoin.

With "Books" as the theme of the meeting, Toastmaster John had prepared a quiz about books and authors, which was filled in during the meeting. There was also a book swap before the meeting and during the supper break.

Scarlett proposed a toast to "The joys of reading."

Brett presented his Icebreaker speech and told how he had decided to join Sandgate Toastmasters.

Maddie presented a humorous speech "A speech about speaking." It was her third speech.

Our third speaker was Peter who told about "The man on the train to Kiso-Fukushima." It was evaluated by Christiane.

Narelle's speech "Step Up S.A.A." was about the role of Sergeant at Arms and was evaluated by Marlene.

Gail presented an educational talk on "Speech Evaluation."

Helen presented her raffle, a selection of delicious snacks. She was kept busy selling tickets during the break.

A short Business Session was conducted by Christiane. The main item under discussion was the Moreton Division Conference to be held on Sunday 16th March at Norths Lakes.  John will be competing in the International Speech Contest and Christiane will compete in the Table Topics Contest. 

Admission to the Conference is $20, which our club will subsidise our members by $5. Attendees need to pay $15 into our bank account and the club will pay the rest. Contact Treasurer Will or President Helen (or any exec member) if you don't have our banking details.

Subsidies for the District Convention attendees in May was also discussed. 

A lively Table Topics session was conducted by Helen, who called on Christiane, Chris, Eoin, and TJ to speak on book related topics. 

Paul presented a General Evaluation of the entire meeting.

Award evening's award winners were Chris (Best Table Topic, Eoin (Most Improved,) Jonathon (Best Evaluation,) and Maddie (Best Speech.)
