Meeting 827 - "The Wearing of the Green"

We celebrated St Patrick's day at our last meeting. It's a pity we couldn't have kissed the Blarney Stone before answering some Jonathon and Kylie's challenging Table Topics.

Michael won "Best Speech" with his fascinating history of the Osborne Hotel, which was actually the forerunner of "The Full Moon." He used a novel approach, and spoke as though it was in the present.
Meriel and Sharyn also presented very informative speeches.

Guests Louise, Liz and Leonie came for the first time, and Maithri, Chris and Jessica came again. Chris and Jessica have decided to join our club.

  1. Re the History of the Osbourne Hotel by Michael, In 1919 William John Edwards had the licence for the hotel and his daughter Olwen was a bar maid. Olwen Edwards married Stanley Cecil Mudford Best and they lived at 11 Verney St Sandgate. William lived with them till his death in 1945. I am Stanley and Olwen's grand daughter The Edward's family came from Blackstone in Ipswich and Stanley's ancestory is of the Best Family of Sandgate . I.B. Best Butcher. Would love to obtain some history of the hotel. Regards. Narelle Falkenhagen.0427744495
