Meeting No 1064 - Transportation

Sargent-at-Arms Dan efficiently called the Meeting to order, followed by President Leanne welcoming guests. From Bracken Ridge Toastmasters Club, Denise, Sue and Dave, and first time guests Callum and Edward, also returning guest Eric.

Toastmaster Paul commenced the program calling on a Toast from Jonathon. In keeping with the theme, his toast was to "The Bicycle".

Wordmaster Gail chose "Attrition" and recorded those Members who were able to incorporate it in their segments.

Hazel gave her Ice Breaker "What Brings Me Here" and it was evaluated by Christiane.




Dan truly convinced us with his speech "Why I need a Boat", evaluated by Chris H.




Timing was amazingly kept on Australian time by Liz W in the U.K.

Carmy presented the Table Topics, choosing 4 participants - Casey on how to get to the North Pole, Monica about future transport, John became a racing driver, and Leanne was asked what was her best mode of transport.

A very innovative raffle of a fist full of scratchies (to go buy your essential supplies) was well sold by Casey. And the winner - Dan, who might even scratch enough to put a deposit on that boat.

Gokul also presented his Ice Breaker for Pathways, entitled "All About Myself" and it was evaluated by Trevor.

Chris D's speech (Evaluation Level 1) was titled "Never Underestimate the Knowledge of learning a new skill" and was evaluated by Liz.


Marlene very competently conducted the Business Session, finishing before the allocated time.

Grammarian Trish gave highlights and reminded us of pausing to take a breath rather than using ums and ahs.

Meeting 1063 "Vive La France"

It was our first meeting for the new Toastmasters year 2020 - 2021.  Some of our members were able to meet together in person, while the rest attended online. New President Leanne welcomed all to the meeting, with a special welcome to our guest Zakk, and handed control to Toastmaster of the Evening, John.

John had chosen "Vive La France" as the theme and sported a mustache for Basille Day. He even entertained us with a smattering of French and song.

Word Master Dan had chosen the French expression "Faux Pas" which means "a gaffe, blunder or mistake."

Hazel proposed a toast to "Toastmasters Sandgate and their Wit, Wisdom, Commitment and Cooperation."

J.P. presented the 10th speech in the Competent Communicator Programme, using plenty of body language to  demonstrate "The Power of Yoga." It was evaluated by Leanne.

Liz Wo  explained why she is a survivor in her account of her experience on a cruise ship during the Covid -19 outbreak. Her speech was evaluated by Jonathon.

Trevor told an amusing tale of his "threesome relationship" with his wife and her mobile phone.

Paul was Time Keeper.

Chris presented the raffle, which was chocolate and coffee sachets, and a flask to keep drinks hot or cold. It was won by Leesa.

 Leanne and Gail provided supper, with biscuits and cupcakes iced in the colours of the French flag, by Leanne's niece.

Marlene's Table Topics were everyday items that were invented by the French.
Calulator, Hairdrier, Pedal Bicycle, Sewing Machine, Folding Umbrella, Bikini.  Peter, Hazel, Christiane Gail, Liz We and Dan were asked to speak for 2 minutes about these items.

Meeting 1062 Change Over. "Change of Hats"


It was time to "change hats" as our new club officers were installed for the coming Toastmasters year, which commences on the 1st July.  Out-going president Gail welcomed our new Area Director Kirsty as well as first time guests Emma and Lisa.

 Gail was pleased to announce that our club had earned President's Distinguished status. (The highest award.)
Congratulations to J.P. and Gokul on completing their Competent Communicator programme, and to Christiane  who has earned her Competent Leader and Advanced Leader Bronze awards.

Control was passed to Toastmaster Liz, who conducted the meeting from her home in the UK.  Liz had many interesting snippets about hats to share throughout the meeting.

Christiane presented the first round of Table Topics, with some challenging topics for Annette, Hazel Paul, Peter, Trish , Leesa and Darryl.

Gail presented her out-going president's address with a recap of some of the highlights of the past year.

The yearly club awards were announced. The Toastmaster of the Year award which is based points accumulated for educational progress, participation in club events, etc was awarded to Gail and the Most Improved award went to Casey, who has shown amazing progress during the year as well as excellence in her duties as club secretary.  Congratulations Gail and Casey!

Induction of club officers for the coming year was conducted by in-coming Area Director Kirsty.
