Remembering Anne

Members who were in our club before 1999 will remember Merv and Anne. They were both very active members who made a huge contribution to our club. Sadly Anne passed away last week. A celebration of her life was held today and many wonderful stories were told of her exuberant personality, her warm smile and caring nature.

Anne entered wholeheartedly into all our Toastmasters events, as you can see from these old photos.

A Day at Club Officer Training

Six of us attended Club Officer Training last Saturday. Some of us have held the same executive role several times, but no matter how many times we attend the training for that role, we usually learn something new and come away with fresh enthusiasm.

I found the Vice Predient Public Relations session conducted by Penni from Chermside Communicators was particularly inspiring. Penni spoke about promoting the personality of our club. Someone in the group suggested that a VPPR is a "keeper of the vibe." If we promote our club in a certain way eg. our club is "friendly and fun," then we have to be authentic and ensure that the club lives up to the promise.

I think our club does that.

Visit to Peninsula Toastmasters

Some of our members attended Peninsula Toastmasters Changeover Dinner and had a very enjoyable evening. Special guest speaker was Marilyn Freeman who had won the District 69 International Contest and will be competing at the Toastmasters Convention in Vancouver.

Another special treat was a very humorous speech from the winner of the District 68 Humorous Speech contest Patrick from Jimboomba Toastmasters.

Change Over Dinner 2017 "Mid Winter Festival"

Congratulations to the Award winners of 2017!

The Most Improved award went to Carmy, who has really grown in confidence and speaking ability in the past 12 months.

And Annette T and Darryl, who enjoy Toastmasters so much, they haven't missed a meeting during the year were presented with the 100% Attendance award.

The winner of the"Toastmaster of the Year" award was not able to be present and will receive their trophy next meeting.

Another highlight of the evening was the presence of our charter member John, who has been a member of our club but has not able to attend recently.

Earlier this year, John was presented with the Lilley award for his dedication and service to Toastmasters over the past 43 years. We were delighted to see John and his wife Doris.
