Einbunpin Festival 2015

Rose
The annual Einbunpin Festival provides a good opportunity to promote our club. As usual we held an information stall and spoke to a lot of people who stopped to find out about Toastmasters.

Jim with Mr M,  JohnT & Amanda
Jim and his dog, Mr M proved to be a good draw card. Some people stopped to admire him. (The dog, I mean.)

Annette, Nicole & Rose with Charlie Puppy

Leesa took this photo of Annette, Nicole and Rose.

Passing by
 We saw some interesting people.

Tim & Tammy
Tim & Tammy lent us their tent and were there to help set up and pack away. ( As well as other wonderful helpers.)

John T
Congratulations to John T, who coordinated our stall this year and stayed all day.

Thanks to all who helped - Jonathon, Dave, Tammy Tim, John, Steve, Sharyn, Liz, Annette, Rose (and dog), Jim (and dog) Amanda, Marlene and others who dropped by to encourage us.

We collected contact details of people who are interested in coming along to a meeting. We hope to see at least some of them next Tuesday night.

Club Officer Training

Jim, John, Marlene, Tim and Nick
Six of us attended Club Officer Training Day last Saturday. Treasurer Jim, President John T, Vice President Public Relations Marlene, Secretary Tim, Sergeant at Arms Nick, also Vice President Education Steve who had already gone in to the next session when the photo was taken.

I enjoyed the VPPR session very much, because it took the form of a discussion, with everyone taking part.

It was good to catch up with members from other clubs.

Meeting 947 "Rhyme and Reason"

Amanda

Congratulations to Amanda on completing her 10th manual speech and achieving Competent Communicator status! Amanda's speech was titled "Motivation - Advice to my Younger Self and You" which she cleverly addressed to herself at a younger age.

Lisa

Congratulations also to Lisa, on presenting her first speech, (the Ice Breaker) On the map, Lisa showed us Suva where she grew up and took us through some milestone moments in her life.

It must have been the coldest night of the year, but attendance was high for our first meeting of the Toastmaster Year. It was good to see Jean C back again.
We even had guests who braved the cold, Craig, Jeanine and Brian (first time guests) and Paul who has decided to join our club. Welcome Paul!

SAA Nick
It was a night of "firsts." The meeting was called to order by our new Sergeant at Arms Nick and controlled  handed to new president John T.

President John T
Toastmaster Dave (the Bard of Brisbane) was well prepared with poems and entertaining ryhmes.

Toastmaster Dave
New member Tim H read the Mission Statement and proposed a toast to "The French and their Many Merits."  (It was Bastille Day.)

Our other newest member Tammy was Word Master and chose a word of french origin, "Cliche."

Tammy
Round Robin Master Liz invited us to tell what Nursery Rhyme held special meaning for us.

Liz
Trish drew her Table Topics from  the poem "Success" by Ralph Waldo Emerson and had some thought provoking questions for  Marlene, Maureen, Nicole, Sharyn and Steve.

Success
"To laugh often and love much; to win the respect of intelligent persons and the affection of children; to earn the approbation of honest citizens and endure the betrayal of false friends; to appreciate beauty; to find the best in others; to give of one’s self; to leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition; to have played and laughed with enthusiasm and sung with exultation; to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived—this is to have succeeded."

The third prepared speech of the evening was a roast by Annette, who roasted Trish and emphasised Trish's passion for purple and her collection of unicorns.
