Meeting 1173 "Easter"

The Easter weekend had finished, but we continued with an Easter theme at our meeting.

Sergeant-at-Arms Narelle called the meeting to order.

President Helen proposed a toast to "The wonderful Easter weather we have had" and handed control to Toastmaster Paul, who had some humorous stories to tell during the evening.

 Word Master Arun chose the word "Cohesion" meaning "the state of sticking together or being in close agreement and working well together."

Gail presented the Round Robin and asked what Easter traditions our family had.

There were 4 prepared speeches.
In his Icebreaker speech, Robert spoke about his ambition to build a diving room.
Gail speech "What time is it?" was an interesting speech about time.

In her speech "I've got the power" Christiane spoke about the role of Vice President Education.

Special guest speaker Chris R from Pines Toastmasters delivered the speech he will use in the Humorous Speech contest at the District Conference and received some feedback from our club members.

Speech evaluators were Peter, Trevor, and Trish. Chris H led the group evaluation for Chris R's speech.

Narelle was Timekeeper.

John presented the raffle which was won by Chris H.

Christiane and Narelle provided a delicious supper including savoury treats, hot cross buns and chocolate Easter eggs.

Chris H conducted the Table Topics session, with Easter themed topics for Helen, Peter, Christiane, Trevor, Arun and Trish.

The Table Topics were evaluated by Marlene and Christiane.

Chris H delivered a humorous soapbox rant about Easter buns appearing in the shops too early in the year.

Marlene presented a listening quiz and found that everyone had listened very well.

Next meeting (Extra) 29th April will be a debate (most of us will be learning how to debate) and John will present his Humorous Contest speech for feedback.

At the following meeting we will have an election of club officers for the coming Toastmasters year (1st July 2025 - 30th June 2026.)

Meeting 1172 "Anniversaries"

 The meeting was a celebration of a special Anniversary - Trish's 30 years in Toastmasters. As well as being a member of our club, Trish has been an Area Director several times, Division Director, and has been District Historian. Our club president Helen presented Trish with flowers and a plaque commemorating her 30 years in our club.

Another highlight of the evening was the induction of our new member Robert.

Robert proposed a toast to "Victory."

The word of the evening chosen by Eoin was "Heliotrope" - a shade of purple, which is Trish's favourite colour.

Round Robin Master Paul invited everyone to share a memorable Anniversary.

George presented a short speech "Embracing Change" and told us about some changes in his life.

The second speaker was John with his speech "Valuing Members." - about the role of Vice President Membership.

Marlene's speech "Spread the Word" was about the Vice President Public Relations role.

Scarlett was timekeeper - her first time in the role.

In the absence of a Raffle Master, Trish volunteered to donate an hour with herself, which she quickly clarified to be for training purpose. It was won by Paul.

Helen had prepared a presentation of Trish's achievements during her 30 years in Toastmasters. When the computer failed to connect with the big screen, she quickly adjusted to "Plan B" which everyone could see.

This was followed by the presentation of the plaque and Trish responded with an entertaining impromptu speech.

The celebration continued with supper. Helen had prepared a cake with purple frosting, while John provided savoury snacks.

The meeting continued with Table Topics. Jonathon had some challenging topics for Paul, Eoin, Helen, Maurie, Trish and Trevor.

A General Evaluation of the meeting was conducted by Trish with some helpful suggestions.

President Helen invited comments from our guests Maurie and Allan, then presented the evening's awards to Narelle (Best Evaluation,) Trish (Best Table Topic,) Maddy (Most Improved,) and Marlene (Best Speech.)
