Meeting 1051 "Encouragement"


Sergeant-at-Arms Darryl opened the meeting by humming (!) the mission statement as well as reading it.

Stephen was Toastmaster for the evening and kept the programme flowing smoothly.

Trish spoke about the encouragement a good evaluation can give, and proposed a toast to Evaluations.

Gokul had chosen a challenging word for the evening - "Incitation," meaning to stimulate to action. He gave some examples on the use of the word. 

Round Robin  Master Vaughan began a story which everyone took part, each ending with the word "fortunately" or "unfortunately" for the next person to continue. (It was a convoluted tale involving a school swimming team eating "Whizz Fizz.")

There were three entertaining speakers. In his speech "Evil Screens," Trevor related some of  his experiences in Thailand and how the culture has changed with the introduction of technology.

Blake presented his Pathways Icebreaker speech, & told how he was trying to escape the "Scaly Talons" of social media.

Chris also presented his first speech in the Pathways Programme and spoke about his journey in Toastmasters.

Carmy was Time Keeper.

Monica's raffle was a selection of cheeses and tickets sold very well during the supper break.

Darryl entertained us with an inspiring personal story.

Grammarian Paul commented on some colourful word pictures, eg, "grainfed rats," "spewing out words on the keyboard,"  and "dark minion of evil underlings." and alliteration - "prepare, practice and present."

Jonathon gave a General Evaluation of the entire meeting, and suggested that evaluators highlight what they are looking for, and to give reasons, eg "It  worked because of that..."

President Gail closed the meeting and presented the evenings awards to Chris and Blake -tie (Best Speech,) Chris was also awarded Most Improved. Paul (Best Table Topic,) and Liz (Best Evaluator.)

This was the final meeting before our Break Up. We will be in recess until the 28th January.

If you are attending our Break up Dinner on the 12th December, you will need to register and pay for the meal by Tues 3rd December.   Details are on eventbrite.

Meeting 1050 "Happy Hour"



Sergeant-at-Arms Darryl set the tone of the evening when he opened the meeting with one of his funny jokes.

Blake introduced the word for the evening, "Cheers."
Round Robin Master Peter invited everyone to tell of a "Happy Hour" they had spent at a hotel.

There were three prepared speeches. Marlene's speech "When You are Three" was the "Effective Body Language" project in the Pathways programme.

John completed level 2 in Pathways with his speech on Mentoring, "Look, Listen and Learn."

Gokul's speech was titled "You Can Do It"  and was evaluated by Liz.

New member Dan had Table Topics for Darryl, Monica, Blake, Liz, Eric and Jonathon, asking  "What comes to mind...." and gave each one an event to speak about.

Jonathon had brought some interesting alcoholic drinks (including Irish, Russian Greek & Maynard Duck) for the raffle it was won by Jason.

Time Keeper Eileen announced that the meeting was running behind time, so the supper break was shortened.  Casey had provided a delicious supper.

Leesa chaired a short Business Session.  There was no general business, apart from the Christmas Break Up Dinner to be held on the 10th December

Grammarian Gail said there had been  some good descriptive phrases during the evening.

We are "Select Distinguished."

The evenings awards went to Gokul (Most Improved,) Blake (Best Table Topic,) John (Best Speech,) and Liz (Best Evaluation.)

Next meeting Tuesday 26th November. Paul will be taking bookings for the Christmas Break Up Dinner, so bring your money. $35 for visitors. $25 for members.
