Meeting 1042 "School Days"


It was a light-hearted meeting, full of fun. Sergeant at Arms Darryl called the meeting to order and recited the Toastmasters Mission Statement from memory. He then set the the tone of the meeting with a short joke.

President Gail welcomed guests Maria, Gokul, Torben and Adrian and inducted new members Jakob and Andrea.


Marlene was Toastmaster for the evening and since the theme was "School Days," she dressed for the part in a mortar board hat and gown.

Monica presented a toast to "Old school days."

Darryl presented the word for the evening "Assiduous," meaning showing great care and attention.

Jakob was Round Robin Master and he asked each member to share their best or worst memory from their school days. This resulted in some funny stories.

There were three prepared speeches. Peter's speech "The Cell" was accompanied by soundless moving pictures on the screen to tell the amazing story of cells.

His speech was evaluated by Christiane.

John's speech "Routes to Peace" was a passionate call to action. It completed his Pathways Level 1.
It was evaluated by Annette.

Stephen spoke on "Assertiveness," and used some good body language to demonstrate how to deal with people.

Paul's raffle was chocolate and wine. It was won by Eileen.

Time keeper Casey reported that we were running over time, so the supper break was shortened to 10 minutes.

Darryl called the meeting back to order with another short funny joke.

Trish had prepared Table Topics related to the School theme and selected Gokul, Andrea, Paul, Trevor, Monica and Annette to give a brief impromptu speech..

The Table Topics were evaluated by Eileen and Casey.

Gail presented an Educational Session about club contests and encouraged members to take part in the  contests which will be held in August and September.

Grammarian Trish commented on descriptive words and phrases used during the evening. She commented on the over use of  the word "really." And she suggested we avoid using the negative word "but" when giving an evaluation.

Jonathon had mostly commendations in his General Evaluation of the entire meeting.

The evening's awards went to Jakob and Andrea (Most Improved,) John (Best speech,) and Annette (Best Table Topic and Best Evaluation).

As there are 5 Tuesday in July, it will be 3 weeks until next meeting on the 13th August. We will be celebrating our club's 45th birthday that night with a special supper.

Contests will be held on the 27th August.

Meanwhile, some of us will be at our information stall at the Einbunpin Festival this Sunday, 28th July. See you there!

Club Officer Training 2019


Our new club officers attended the  training day on Saturday to learn more about the roles they have taken on for the year. It was also  an opportunity to meet up with old and new friends from other Toastmasters Clubs .

It was a very informative and inspiring day for all.

Meeting 1041 "Christmas in July"


It was our first meeting for the  new Toastmasters year 2019 - 2020.  New President Gail welcomed all to the meeting and handed control to Toastmaster of the Evening, Christiane.

The theme was "Christmas in July," and Christiane was able to tell us of her first experience of  an Australian Christmas in July and some other interesting stories about Christmas customs.

Eileen proposed a toast to "The Spirit of Christmas." Word Master Stephen introduced the word "Atmosphere."

Gail presented the Round Robin segment, where each person spoke for 20 seconds. Her theme was "My Most Uncomfortable Christmas."

Speeches

Paul presented a speech about leadership styles and compared the leadership of people he had worked with, before describing his own leadership style.  His speech was evaluated by Chris.

The purpose of Trish's speech "Leaving a Legacy" was to inspire her audience, which she did by urging us to write down stories for future  generations to read. Her speech was evaluated by Peter.

Trevor's speech "Supply and Demand" was a project from "The Entertaining Speaker" Manual.
It was an amusing account of farming in Thailand. It was evaluated by Blake.

Raffle

Leesa presented her raffle (wine and Scratchit tickets) with a flourish and  a smattering of Italian.

After supper provided by Marlene, a short business session was chaired by Leanne.
